Admission test of public universities will be held under a uniform procedure from the next 2020-21 academic sessions, reports BSS.
The decision was taken at the standing committee meeting of Bangladesh Bishwabidyalay Parishad (BBP), a platform of the vice chancellors (VCs) of public universities, at VC’s conference room of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) on Tuesday, said a press release.
However, Dhaka University (DU), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Jahangirnagar University (JU) are yet to agree to follow the system.
Talking to BSS, DU vice chancellor Akhtaruzzaman said the university’s academic council will take the decision whether the DU will follow the uniform system or not.
In the uniform system, separate tests will be held for admission into different faculties or disciplines in line with the syllabuses of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams.
The colleges under the National University will also follow the same procedure for admission into undergraduate courses.
At the meeting, the vice chancellors unanimously agreed to adopt the uniform admission system to avoid hassle and expenditures of the students and their guardians.
VCs of 28 universities, including BBP president and SAU VC professor Kamal Uddin Ahamed, NU VC professor Harun-or-Rashid, Chittagong University VC professor Shireen Akhter, Rajshahi University VC professor M Abdus Sobhan, Jagannath University VC professor Mijanur Rahman, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology VC professor Farid Uddin Ahmed, were present at the meeting.
Applicants will be asked to submit applications for admission soon after the result of the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) is published. The unified university admission examination will be held within November.
Under this system, admission seekers can submit their applications to the concerned universities based on the demand and their position on the central merit list prepared from the uniform test.
Use of short question answers instead of multiple choice questions was also proposed during the meeting.
