Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival calls for films

Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) 2021 has started its film submission process from 3 April 2020, for its 7th season. There are three categories in the festival: Screening, Competition and One Minute Film.

On 3 April every year, Bangladesh observes the National Film Day. For the last six years DIMFF opens up for film submissions for the upcoming season on this day.

For the first time DIMFF has added an award for ‘screening’, the “DIMFF Best Film Award”. Anyone from anywhere around the world can submit their film in the ‘screening’ category. In the ‘competition’ category, only university students can submit their films. The best film from this category will be awarded “Cinemascope Best Film”. For school students of class 1 to 12, DIMFF has introduced the “one-minute film” category and the best film from this category will get “ULAB Young Filmmaker” award.

In the ‘screening’ category, the film length can be of any duration. In the ‘competition’ category, the length can be a maximum of 10 minutes. In the ‘one-minute film’ category the films have to be one minute in length. For both the latter categories, the duration includes the title and credit line. The participant cannot submit more than two films. English subtitles are a must for the film.

“Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the world has come to stand still for uncountable days. In that case, to make a film outside is not safe. Last year on DIMFF 2020 some film works were successfully done at home. So, this year it is another big challenge for makers to create a film on zero budget and we encourage producers to make their films at zero cost. We hope to get films with a new vision this year,” said Dr Kabil Khan, assistant professor of media studies and journalism at ULAB. Khan is also the advisor of DIMFF.

Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) was launched back in 2015 with the slogan - new generation, new tools, new communication. Cinemascope, an apprenticeship programme of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), conducts this festival. The main objective of Cinemascope is to encourage people to make films using their mobile phones.

The 7th Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) will be held on 26 and 27 February 2021.
