CU teacher dies from coronavirus

Shafiul Alam Tarafdar, a professor of mathematics at Chittagong University, died of COVID-19 at a hospital on Thursday. He was 55.

The CU professor, hailing from Khulna, breathed his last around 9:30pm at the ICU of Parkview Hospital in the port city, said Shah Newaz, a friend of the professor, reports UNB.

Shafiul tested positive for coronavirus on 9 June and undergoing treatment at the hospital.

He had been suffering from diabetes, blood pressure and other diseases.

He has been taking treatment at the hospital from last one month and shifted to the ICU 10/12 days ago following deterioration of his condition, said a source at the hospital.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Kajem Ali field in the city after Jum'a prayers.

Bangladesh COVID-19 cases have increased to 249,651 with the detection of 2,977 cases while 39 people died, bringing the death tally to 3,300 on Thursday.
