Education minister Dipu Moni on Sunday said, there will be no great loss to life if exams are not held for a year. The minister came up with this remark while speaking on issues of SSC and HSC students at a National Press Club.

Calling upon students not to be confused, minister Dipu Moni said, “It is a secondary matter as to whether the exam will be held. The primary issue is to stay healthy.”

She urged the students to continue their regular studies at home. The government has chalked out plans on all details including whether the exams could be held or not, and if not, what measures would be adopted as an alternative, the minister added.

Dipu Moni said, let students continue their studies at home as much as possible, with assignments from their respective schools and colleges. There is no reason to be worried. We will not take any decision that will cause them a great loss.

There are demands from students to reopen educational institutions while the government has gradually been extending the closure to check the Covid-19 transmission.

According to UNICEF, Bangladesh is among 14 nations which have shut their educational institutions for an extended period of time during the Covid-19 pandemic. The government declared the closure of all schools, colleges and universities on 17 March in 2020.
