There is a pressure from different quarters, but not from students and guardians, to reopen the educational institutions.

Education minister Dipu Moni made this remark on Saturday while attending in a memorial of late law minister Abdul Matin Khasru at the national press club.

Dipu Moni said there is pressure from different quarters, but not from any students’ bodies or guardians, to reopen the schools and colleges.

Addressing the event as a chief discussant, she said, every day I receive messages about reopening educational institutions. But majority portion of these requests are not to reopen schools and colleges.

There are movements in different places demanding reopening schools and colleges. But we cannot push the people’s health into danger just because of these movements. Campus will be opened if the pandemic situation is brought under control. We will not ignore the people’s health by any means, the minister added.

The memorial event was organised by ‘Jonotar Prottasa,’ a social organisation, with Sohrab Khan, president of Nagorik Samaj, in the chair.

Former agriculture minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, former Food minister Quamrul Islam and Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) president Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, among others spoke at the meeting.
