Primary and mass education minister Mostafizur Rahman on Sunday said the dropout rate in the primary education now stands at 18.8 per cent, reports BSS.

“As per the annual primary school census of 2017, the present rate of drop out in the primary education is 18.8 per cent,” he said while responding to a query of treasury bench lawmaker M Israfil Alam of Naogaon-6 in parliament.

The main reason behind the dropout in the primary education is poverty, unawareness, child labour, communication system and illiteracy.

Mostafizur said various programmes are underway at the field level to curb this dropout rate.
