21 DU students get SWED Trust scholarship

A total of 21 students of Dhaka University's Soil, Water and Environment Department (SWED) were awarded SWED Trust Fund scholarship on Thursday.

DU vice-chancellor professor Akhtaruzzaman distributed the cheques for scholarship money and certificates among the awardees at a function at the department’s auditorium on the campus, said a DU press release.

Among the scholarship recipients, 12 got stipends while seven talent pool scholarships and two gold medals.

The stipend awardees are Md Amir Hossain, Sadiya Lina Alfi, Md Muhidul Islam, Mahbub Hasan Talukder, Md Rana Arafat, Farhana Feroze Meem, Mst Umme Salma, Md Mahfuz Islam, Md Omar Sani Akan, Fatema Tuz Zohra, Naima Nargis and Md Saiful Islam.

The talent pool scholarship recipients include Md Harun Miah, Md Akib Al Mahir, Md Raisuddin Shikder, Saif Shahrukh, Md Sajjadul Islam and Nafisa Rahman Anika.

The gold medal awardees are Juyaira Binte Zasim and Sumaiya Chowdhury.

DU SWED chairman Md Didar-ul-Alam presided over the function while executive director of the SWED Trust Fund professor Md Akhter Hossain Khan conducted it.

In the function, it was informed that the department will launch another scholarship after the name of its former professor Aminul Islam from the next year.

Aminul Islam’s spouse Helena Islam was present in the function, among others.
