Bangladesh to compete in int'l robotic challenge

A five-member team of adolescent girls and boys will take part in the international robotics competition titled 'First Global Challenge' to be held in Mexico City, capital of Mexico from 15-18 August, reports UNB.

The team will leave for Mexico on Sunday to join the event where adolescents from 182 countries are going to participate.

The team members are Anahita Anoara, Laleh Naz Bergman Hossain, Sujoy Mahmud, Arman Khasru and Razeen Ali.

They are all involved with Tech Academy, a social initiative of information and communication technology based in Dhaka.

The Tech Academy representatives gave the details of the competition and the Bangladeshi team at a press conference on Saturday at the BRAC Centre in the capital.

BRAC Bank, Apex, bKash and Microsoft are sponsors to the Bangladesh team's endeavour.

Representatives from the sponsor organisations were also present at the event.

The organisers said the 'First Global Challenge' is a platform for the age group of 14-18 years who are actively working in technology innovation and development.

For this year's competitors the USA National Academy of Engineering has set 14 'Grand challenge' based on the current year theme of the event 'Energy impact'.

The central issues of this year's challenges are fuel plants, potentials of new fuel energy sources, integrated, powerful and sustainable fuel transmission systems.

Founder of The Tech Academy Shams Jaber said, "Our participation in this competition will bridge us with other participating communities. On the other hand, it will bring an opportunity to present Bangladesh to the world in a new light. This participation is a reflection that our country had made long strides in technology.”

Expressing her feelings as a participant in the competition, Anahita Anwara said they have given much more effort and labour than they did in the last year.

"Besides our regular studies, we have spent huge time in preparing ourselves for the competition. Our preparation, planning and design are really good and so we are confident that we would do much better this time," she said.
