Failing first, 2 admission seekers stand 1st, 2nd later!

Two students seeking admission at Dhaka University have shown miraculous performance in a common group of test after failing to secure minimum marks in their own groups.

The admission seekers, who failed in tests for ‘Ka’ (science) and ‘Ga’ (business studies) units, have stood first and second in test for ‘Gha’, which is a combined unit for students of science, business studies and humanities to change their discipline.

Despite allegations of question paper leaks, the university authorities on Tuesday published the results of 'Gha' unit admission test for 2018-2019 academic session, conducted under the Social Science Faculty.

Some other students have also shown surprising performance as the rate of success is said to have increased in ‘Gha’ this year, in comparison to the results of the previous two years.

Business studies background student Zahid Hasan (Akash) stood first in 'Gha' unit and he got 114.30 marks out of 120. He earlier failed in securing pass marks in admission test for 'Ga' unit where he got only 34 marks out of 120.

In Gha unit, Zahid got 30 marks in Bangla out of 30 and 27.30 in English out of 30. But he obtained 10.80 in Bangla and 2.40 in English in 'Ga' unit admission test.

Tasnim Bin Alam, a student of science background, stood second in 'Gha' unit admission test. He got 109.50 marks out of 120. He too failed in his own group, 'Ka' unit, getting only 43.75 marks out of 120.

When contacted, cell phones of these two students were found switched off.

Students in general believe the allegations of question leak are true.

"The probe body found the digital forgery. The law enforcement detained a number of offenders. Nobody will be spared,” vice chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman told Prothom Alo.

‘Gha’ unit examination was held on 12 October. The question was available on the social media at 9:17am, about 45 minutes before the start of the test at 10am.

As many as 72 multiple choice questions (MCQs) (19 in Bengali, 17 in English and 36 in general knowledge section) of the test were found to have matched with the leaked ones.
