Wrong set of question papers was distributed among 48 examinees at the Lahiri Bohumukhi High School exam centre in Thakurgaon’s Baliadangi upazila on the first day of the Junior School Certificate (JSC) examinations.

The question paper they were given followed the 2017 syllabus for the subject, Bangla, instead of 2018. The questions papers were meant for those who may have missed the 2017 exam or candidates for resit.

The matter came to light only after completion of the examination in the centre. Most of the 48 unlucky students, realising they would probably have to sit for the subject again, broke down in tears.

Md Zillur Rahman, head teacher of Lahiri Bohumukhi High School and also centre secretary, blamed the specific invigilators on duty at the centre for being negligent.

A total of 1,259 students sat for the exam from the centre.

Bhupendra Nath, district education officer (acting), said that on information he along with additional deputy commissioner Nur Kutubul Alam visited the centre.

The matter was informed to the chairman of Dinajpur Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board.

A probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
