5 DU teachers, 37 students get Dean’s Award

A total of 37 students of various departments under the science faculty of Dhaka University (DU) have been given ‘Dean’s Award’ for their outstanding academic results in Bachelor of Science (BSc) examination of 2015, 2016 and 2017, reports BSS.

Besides, five teachers of the faculty have received the award for their extra-ordinary contributions to original research and writing books.

DU vice chancellor professor Md Akhtaruzzaman distributed medals and certificates among the recipients of the award as chief guest at a function held Wednesday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university.

Teachers who received Dean’s Award are -- professor Samir Kumar Bhowmik, professor M Shafiqur Rahman, professor Tamanna Howlader, associate professor Md Anower Hossain and assistant professor Nabil Awan.

Science faculty dean professor Mohammed Abdul Aziz presided over the function while pro-vice chancellor (academic) professor Nasreen Ahmad, pro-vice chancellor (administration) professor Muhammad Samad and treasurer professor Md Kamal Uddin addressed it as special guests.

While addressing the function, professor Md Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to equip themselves with knowledge, moral values and non-communal spirits.

He said, “The Dhaka University campus is a place of adequate opportunities for all students and they should utilise these opportunities properly to build their careers.”

He congratulated the awardees and their guardians and hoped that recipients of this award would contribute to the development of the country in the days to come.
