In 2007, Cheltenham festival partnered with the British Council and since then, more than 10,000 people have participated in the competition.

It is a communication competition designed to engage and entertain audience and participants by breaking down science, technology, and engineering concepts into three minutes presentation. It is a platform which gives people a snapshot into the world of science and engineering and is also dedicated to answering both bizarre and relevant questions from ‘Can biomaterials fix a broken heart?’ to ‘Is nuclear energy a good or bad thing?’.

FameLab was a life-changing experience for Alvee Islam. He was the winner of regional FameLab competition in Bangladesh and, he also was one of the 12 finalists at Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK.

Alvee Islam said, "FameLab was the best learning experience for me. I met so many talented people there. Most importantly, I learned about myself, about where I need to improve and what I’m already good at. I came back to Bangladesh with fresh ideas about my career."

In 2018, the British Council launched FameLab in Bangladesh for the first time and received over 500 registrations for auditions nationwide.

This year, the contest expects even more participants from across Bangladesh.
