The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations under eight general education boards, one madrasa and one technical education board began today morning.
A total of 14,32,727 students are set to appear in the examinations in 2, 942 centres. Of them, 7,33,202 are boys and 6,99,525 are girls. The number of total examinees has risen to 1,29,554 from previous year's 13,03,203.
On the first day, the morning shift examinations will be held from 10:00am to 1:00pm while that of afternoon shift from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
A total of 296 examinees will sit for the examinations at seven centres outside Bangladesh this year. The seven centres are: Jeddah and Riad in United Saudi Arabia, Tripoli in Libya, Doha in Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Dubai in United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
According to examination routine, the written examinations will end on 22 March while the practical examinations will be held from 23 to 27 March.

The results will be published by 20 May 2014, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid earlier confirmed this.

Meanwhile, the minister today visited at Motijheel Boys' High School examination centre in the capital where students are appearing at the Bengali First paper examination.

He urged the political parties to refrain from holding any agitation programme during the examinations and sought co-operation of all concerned to hold the examinations peacefully.
