Students’ council has been formed through direct election in 8,684 primary schools in all eight districts of Rajshahi division, reports BSS.

Abul Kalam Azad, divisional deputy director of department of primary education, told BSS that a seven-member students’ council has been formed with at least two candidates from each class for one-year term on Wednesday.

Students by themselves of the schools took part in all process of the election and also cast their votes to elect the council members spontaneously.

He added that building democratic attitude and tolerance of others’ opinions among students and involves them in school development activities was the main objective of the council.

The elected councils will meet once in a month and a general council will be held every six months with the presence of other students.

Talking to BSS on the issue Ayub Ali, head teacher of Ghoramara Government Primary School, said the council will monitor seven main tasks in terms of books and learning instruments, health, sports and culture, water resources, midday meals and greetings and entertainment.

The respective school head teacher will delegate the duties to the council.
