A ten-day book fair began on Sunday afternoon aims at encouraging people, especially children to develop reading books from an early age.
The fair was organized at Green Plaza of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) as part of the 20-day long Bangabandhu International Cultural Festival-2019 being celebrated here since 7 March to mark the 99th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangabandhu International Cultural Festival-2019 celebration council is hosting the book fair with patronization of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton.

Member of Bangabandhu Memorial Trust poet Sheikh Hafizur Rahman opened the fair as focal person while former governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) Atiur Rahman addressed the opening ceremony as the chief guest with city mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton in the chair.

Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, professor Hassan Azizul Haque and commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police AKM Hafiz Akter also spoke on the occasion.

Many publishers have set up 25 stalls in the fair displaying various types of books. In his remarks, Sheikh Hafizur Rahman said books enlighten people -- easy and creative books are essential for the mental development of children.
Books help people to acquire knowledge about the outside world.

He underscored the need for reaching books at the doorsteps of the readers to encourage them to read.

Poet Hafizur Rahman hoped the fair will contribute a lot to attain the desired goal and sought all-out cooperation from all quarters to make the fair a total success.

The fair will remain open for all from 10am to 8pm everyday till 26 March.

Besides, cultural programmes will be held every evening on separate themes during the fair.
