Bangladeshi student wins Int’l arithmetic competition

Sharif Adibur Rahman, a ninth grader of European Standard School (ESS) in the capital’s Dhanmondi area, has become the champion at the Aloha Mental Arithmetic International Competition-2019 in China, reports BSS.

The competition was held at Marco Polo Hotel, Foshan in China on 20 July, said a press release.

Earlier, Adibur Rahman became the grand champion at the International Arithmetic Competition-2018, held in Moscow of Russia.

He also achieved awards in 2017, 2016 and 2015 in the competitions held in Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia, Yogyakarta of Indonesia and Manila of the Philippines respectively.

Nearly 50,000 students from 40 countries, including Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, the Philippines, Australia, the US, the UK, Canada, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Croatia, Mexico, Ecuador, Sweden, Uzbekistan and Russia took part in those competitions.

Sharif Adibur Rahman is the second son of freedom fighter and former district judge Sharif Lutfor Rahman and poet Nayema Khanum and grandson of late professor ANM Abdul Mannan Khan of Arabic department at Dhaka University.
