JU protesters demand VC’s resignation by 1 Oct

The protesting students and teachers of Jahangirnagar University on Wednesday demanded resignation of vice chancellor professor Farzana Islam within 1 October over her alleged involvement in corruption.

They made the demand in a press conference at new arts building around 7:30pm saying they would take strict measures if their demand is not met.

Besides, professor Farzana was declared unwanted at the campus during upcoming admission test examination of the university. At the same time, the protesters declared a demonstration programme for Thursday.

Professor Raihan Rain, one of the protesting teachers, said professor Farzana has no moral right to remain the VC of the university after serious allegations of corruption.

“We would declare strict programmes if she does not resign respectfully,” he said.

Protesting professors of the university include Khabir Uddin, Shamima Sultana, Quamrul Ahsan, Tareq Reza, Anwarullah Bhuiyan and Jamal Uddin Runu.

Besides, Bangladesh Chhatra Union’s JU unit president Nojir Amin Chowdhury Joy, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front’s JU unit president Mohammad Didar, Jahangirnagar Cultural Alliance president Ashiqur Rahman, Bangladesh General Students Right Protection Council convenor Shakil-uz-Zaman were among others present at the press conference.
