A three-day international conference on “people’s history” began at Rajshahi University (RU) on Thursday with a view to expanding education and research on the issue for furthermore enriching the field.

The history department at RU and People History Cultural Centre (PHCC) jointly hosted the conference titled “Culture, Peace and Education: From the Perspective of Peoples’ History” at senate building of the university.

Chairman of University Grants Commission professor Kazi Shahidullah addressed the opening ceremony as chief guest with RU vice-chancellor professor Abdus Sobhan in the chair.

RU pro-VCs professor Ananda Kumar Shaha and professor Chowdhury Jakaria, Bangabandhu Chair of Bangladesh University of Professionals professor Syed Anwar Hossain, assistant Indian high commissioner Sanjib Bhatty and PHCC president professor Mesbah Kamal also spoke on the occasion.

Addressing conference, professor Shahidullah said the conference will be a haven for scholarly discussions on the related issues as large number of experts from home and abroad are joining here.

Around 100 papers in 13 technical sessions in addition to 10 papers in the opening day’s four plenary sessions on various issues and sub-issues covering culture, peace and education are scheduled to be presented in the three-day conference.

More than 200 historians, teachers, researchers, students and professional experts from both home and abroad are taking part in the conference.
