US university offers free online English course

The US Department of State is sponsoring a free Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) for teachers who specialise in Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) between three and ten years of age.

The MOOC is offered by George Mason University as part of the US
Department of State’s American English (AE) E-Teacher Program, said a press release.

Enrolment is open until 25 November, 2019. After enrolling, participants may log in at any time — day or night — to access the course.

All five modules of coursework must be completed by 2 December, 2019.

Participants, who complete the required activities with a score of 70 per cent or higher, will receive a digital badge and certificate.

This TEYL MOOC is designed to introduce English teachers the theory and practice of teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) to young learners three to ten years old.

Through engaging videos and practical readings, MOOC participants will explore approaches for teaching English that are not only effective but also fun and engaging for children.

Through weekly participation in this MOOC, teachers will have the opportunity to share ideas with peers and apply course content to their specific learning environment.

Get ready to learn about TEYL and be part of an international learning community with teachers around the world! All created content in this course is licensed CC-BY 4.0. This means that anything marked CC BY 4.0 can be reused, revised, remixed, and redistributed by teachers in their school or community.

This special TEYL MOOC is one of many initiatives the US Diplomatic Mission in Bangladesh is supporting this year to promote greater cooperation, dialogue, and mutual understanding between Bangladeshis and Americans.
