The Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) was shut down for an indefinite period on Saturday after a clash between two groups of students over a football match, reports news agency UNB.

“The residential students have been ordered to vacate the halls,” said registrar GM Shahidul Alam.

Male students have been asked to vacate the residential halls by 5:00pm while the female students will have to leave their hall within 10:00am Sunday, he added.

The clash broke out over a football match between Amar Ekushey Hall and Fazlul Haque Hall on Friday afternoon.

Police were deployed on the campus at night, said Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khanjahan Ali police station.
