CU gets first female VC

Chittagong University (CU) has gotten its first female vice chancellor (VC) with the appointment of professor Shireen Akhter, according to UNB.

President Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of the university, gave the appointment, said a notification posted on the website of the secondary and higher education division of the education ministry.

Shireen Akhter, a pro-VC, had been performing the duties of the VC (temporarily) since 15 June after the expiry of the tenure of previous VC professor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury.

Shireen Akhter of Bangla department was the 8th pro-VC of the university from 28 March of 2016.

Prof Shireen completed her master’s degree in 1984 and joined the university as a lecturer in 1996. She did her PhD from Jadavpur University in India in 1991.
