Barisal University gets new VC

Professor Md Sadequl Arefin (Arefin Matin), a social work department professor of Rajshahi University, was appointed as the vice chancellor of Barisal University on Sunday, reports UNB.

President Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of the university, made the appointment six months after the removal of former VC Imamul Haque.

The ministry of education issued a gazette notification in this regard, saying professor Arefin has been appointed for the next four years.

Abu Jafar Mia, president of Barisal University Teachers’ Association, welcomed the new VC, saying the university would face serious problems if the appointment was not made at such a critical moment.

Former VC Haque was removed from his post about six months ago following a huge protest after he allegedly vilified his students.
