Girl writing with foot secures A+

Muktamoni was a normal girl with a dream of becoming a teacher. But an accident two years ago that cost her hands had threatened to shatter that dream. The girl fought back with her leg braving all odds, reports UNB.

She has obtained A+ in the Primary Education Completion (PEC) examination under Barishal Board writing with her foot.

Twelve-year-old Muktamoni, daughter of Sentu Mia and Jhumur Begum, took part in the exam from Purba Pottonibhanga Government Primary School in Hizla upazila of the district.

“Fourteen students had taken part in the PEC exam from the school and she’s the only one to get GPA 5,” headmistress Nasima Khanam told UNB. "Her dream has come true. We hope she has a bright future ahead of her.”

Muktamoni’s relatives said her mother Jhumur lives in Savar where she works at a readymade garments factory. Two years ago, when the girl was in grade III, she went to Savar and came in touch with a live wire while catching birds.

Doctors eventually decided to amputate her hands as the wounds were not healing.

But that did not stop her from pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher and she started practising writing with her leg. “Her writing is more beautiful than the other students of her grade,” her headmistress Nasima said.

Muktamoni had been living with her grandmother at Pattanibhanga village in the upazila since her accident and got enrolled at the school in grade IV.

She is now staying with her mother in Savar after the demise of her grandmother, two days after the PEC examination. Muktamoni got enrolled at a school in Savar.

She is moving ahead with her dream to become a teacher.
