One of the three suspected militants killed in Nakhalpara operation was identified on Friday, reports UNB.

Victim’s father Nazrul identified the militant as Nafis, hailing from Chittagong, after Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday released two photos of the suspected militants, who were killed in the militant’s hideout at West Nakhalpara in the city on 12 January.

Nafis’s family member contacted RAB after seeing the released photos and went to Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital and spotted the body, said Lt Col Imranul Hasan, commanding officer of RAB-3.

One of the three suspected militants killed in Nakhalpara operation was earlier identified as Zahid alias Mezbah Uddin, son of Enamul Haque and Tahmina Akhter of Comilla district. The fingerprints of Zahid matched with the national identity (NID) database.

Earlier on 12 January, members of the elite force cordoned off the militant hideout located at 13/1 ‘Rubi Vila’, a six-storey building in Nakhalpara.

At one stage, the militants opened fire and hurled a grenade targeting the RAB personnel while RAB also retaliated. During the exchange of gunshots, three militants including Zahid alias Mezbah were killed and two RAB men sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, a case was filed under Anti-Terrorism Act with Tejgaon police station in this connection.
