Mild quake jolts northern districts

An earthquake of mild intensity jolted several districts of northern part of the country on Saturday morning.

However, no casualty or loss of property was immediately reported.

Tremors were felt in Dinajpur, Rangpur, Kurigram and Lalmonirhat districts at 7:14am, said the seismological research centre of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Seismological research centre wireless supervisor Md Zahirul Islam said the magnitude of the quake was recorded at 4.5 on the Richter scale.

The epicentre of the quake was roughly located at a northern area, 272 kilometres away from Dhaka, Zahirul said.

Tremors were also felt in Indian territories close to Bangladesh border.
