Sylhet's rail links with rest of country restored after 16 hrs

The rail communications between Sylhet and the rest of the country resumed on Friday afternoon after a 16-hour of disruption.

The rail links were snapped following derailment of 11 compartments of a train in Santgaon station of Srimangal upazila in Moulvibazar district, reports UNB.

The rail links restored around 4:30pm after the derailed compartments of Upaban Express have been salvaged, said Srimangal railway station master Md Shakhawat Hossain.

The bogies of 'Upaban Express' veered off the tracks around 12:50am, disrupting train movement between Sylhet and the rest of the country.

Sylhet railway divisional office assistant engineer Mujibur Rahman said the under gear broke down that led to the derailment of the train.

Two relief trains from Kulaura and Akhaura came to the spot and salvaged the train bogies, he added.
