Teenager loses life in attack over cricket match

An 18-year-old boy was allegedly stabbed to death by his opponents over a dispute arising out of a friendly cricket match at Khilgaon in the city on Thursday night, reports UNB.

The victim is Rasel Rony, son of Shahidul Islam hailing from Raghunathpur village in Bakerganj Upazila of Barishal district, who appeared at this year’s SSC examination from Khilgaon Government Staff-Quarter College.

Rony and his family were residents of a rented house near Khilgaon Old Mosque.

Elder brother of the deceased Abu Saleh claimed Rony and his local friends played a cricket match at the old police camp playground in the area on Thursday.

At one stage Rony and his opponents got into a dispute over the match score.

This dispute after a point descended into a knife-fight, and some members of the rival team including Akash, Rana, Siraj Masud attacked Rony after their defeat in the match and chopped on his abdomen randomly, leaving him severely injured.

Rony was first rushed to nearby Khilgaon Khidma Hospital where he was provided with first aid.

Later, the injured was even referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries around 9:00pm.

The body is kept at the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.
