Girl loses leg in city road crash

A teenage girl lost one of her legs as a BRTC bus ran over her on Airport Road in the capital's Banani area on Friday night, reports UNB.

An Uttara-bound Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) bus from Mohakhali hit Rozina Akhter, 16, while she was crossing the road in Chairmanbari area around 8:30pm, sources at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), better known as Pangu Hospital, said.

The right leg of the victim got severed from her thigh following the accident, physicians said.

After the accident, she was rushed to Pangu Hospital immediately. Police detained the bus along with its driver soon after the incident.

Talking to reporters at the hospital, Rozina said she has been working at a journalist's house in Niketon area. She went to Amtola area near Chairmanbari on Friday to visit one of her friends.

When she was about to cross the road the rear wheel of the BRTC bus ran over her, Rozina said. Daughter of Rasul Mia, Rozina hails from Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh.

A case was filed with Banani police station in this connection.

Earlier on 4 April, Rajib Hossain, a student of Government Titumir College had lost his right hand after it got stuck between two buses at Karwan Bazar area. He succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on 17 April.
