Separate incidents kill 2

Two persons were killed in separate incidents in Puthia and Durgapur upazilas of Rajshahi district on Monday.

The deceased are Piarul Islam, 40, son of a certain Kukor Mondol of Jamira Hatpara village in Puthia upazila and Ishaq Mandal of Sukhandighi village in Durgapur upazila, reports UNB.

Locals said there had been a longstanding land dispute between Piarul and his younger brother Ziarul.

On Monday, younger brother Ziarul locked into an altercation with Piarul over the land dispute after Fazr prayer.

At one stage, Ziarul hacked his elder brother Piarul with sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.

The injured was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where physicians declared him dead, locals added.

Soon after the incident, victim’s wife filed a murder case with Belpukur police station accusing four people, said its officer-in-charge Sheikh Mohammad Golam Mostofa.

In another incident, Ishaq Mandal was beaten by a rival group over a trivial matter in Sukandighi village of Durgapur upazila, leaving him critically injured.

He was admitted to RMCH where doctors declared him dead around 12:00am, said Durgapur police station sub-inspector (investigation) Mizanur Rahman.

A case was filed with the police station and law enforcement arrested Lalu, 46, son of one late Syed Ali of the village for his involvement in the incident, police said.
