Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has vowed to make Dhaka city free of narcotics. He has also asked the citizens to help him in this cause.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) anti-narcotics drive in Farmgate area.

"The prevalence of narcotics has been very worrying. The prime minister has asked us to take stern action against it and now we have launched this anti-narcotics drive," Kamal said.

Outlining the government's anti-drug drives throughout the country, Kamal said the intelligence has made a list of the narcotics traders.

"They would be brought to book. None would be spared," he added.

Highlighting the role of family in resolving the narcotics problem, he asked the people to provide the police with information about narcotics dealers.

DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, DMP's counter terrorism and transnational crime unit's chief Monirul Islam and joint commissioner of DMP Abdul Baten were also present on the occasion.
