Lightning strike kills 3

Three people were killed and five others injured after being struck by lightning in Haripur and Pirganj upazilas of Thakurgaon district on Friday.

The deceased are Moinuddin, 26, son of a certain Ashanur, and Shariphan, 40, wife of one Md Bablu of Lahuchand village of Haripur upazila and Mobarak Ali, 38, from Patuapara village in Pirganj upazila, reports UNB.

On the way to paddy field, two brothers Moinuddin and Naimuddin took shelter at Bablu’s house seeing lightning on the sky, Dangipara union parishd chairman Moniruzzaman Moni said quoting witnesses.

But, two brothers and Babul’s wife Shariphan sustained injuries when a thunderbolt struck them, leaving them critically injured, he said.

Later, they were taken to Ranisankail Hospital where the duty doctor declared Moinuddin and Sariphon dead.

A case of un-natural death was filed with Haripur police station, said officer-in-charge of the police station Ruhul Kuddus.

In Pirganj upazila, Mobarak Ali was killed after being struck by thunderbolt while he was sleeping in his home, Upazila Nirbahi Officer AWM Rahman said.
