Eid joy eludes Bangladeshis: Ershad

Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Saturday said the joy of Eid is now elusive in the country.

Because, he argued, the people are getting killed without any trial, even during Ramadan and ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

"Every person has the right to get justice, but the joy of eid is now elusive due to the ongoing extrajudicial killings," he said.

Ershad, a former military ruler, came up with the comment while exchanging greetings with people of all walks of life at the Jatiya Party's Banani office, marking Eid-ul-Fitr.

He called upon the government to stop the extrajudicial killing immediately.

Ershad bemoaned that Muslims are being oppressed across the world while many of them remain without food, even on the eid day.

He urged the global community to stand beside the persecuted and hungry people like Rohingya and Palestinians.

The Jatiya Party chief also hoped that the country's people will very soon be able to overcome the current 'bad time'. Speaking at the programme, Jatiya Party senior co-chairman Raushon Ershad said the mass killings of Rohingya and Palestinians cannot be accepted in a civilised society. "The joy of eid gets faded away due to continued repression on Muslims at different parts of the world," she observed.
