Road crashes since Eid holidays claim over 60 lives

Five more people were killed and 14 others injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch on the Khulna-Satkhira road on Thursday.

At least 62 people lost lives in road accidents in 15 districts in the past one week ahead and after the Eid vacation.

The road crashes reportedly took place in Chattogram, Sylhet, Chandpur, Habiganj Jhenidah Gopalganj, Cox's Bazar, Noakhali, Cumilla, Tangail, Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, Magura, Mymensingh and Narsingdi.

On Thursday, a Khulna-bound bus from Paikgaccha fell into a ditch at Bortia in Dumuria around 12:45 pm when its driver lost control over the steering, reports UNB.

Five people died on the spot and 14 others injured. The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

Habil Hossain, officer-in-charge of Dumuria police station, said on information, the police recovered the bodies and sent those to Khulna Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The injured were taken to a local hospital.

At least 11 people, including nine picnickers, were killed and 18 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a picnic pick-up at Dhalagachhi in Saidpur of Nilphamari on Sunday night.

Ten more people, including two schoolteachers, were killed in separate road accidents in Chattogram, Sylhet, Chandpur, Habiganj and Jhenidah districts on Friday and Saturday.
