Woman ‘beaten dead’ by daughter-in-law

An elderly woman was reportedly beaten to death allegedly by her daughter-in-law in Bamondanga Dakuatari in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha district early Wednesday.

The deceased is Maksuda Begum, 44, wife of a certain Abdul Hamid of the village, reports UNB.

Maksuda picked up a quarrel with her daughter-in-law Sharifa Begum over a trifling matter around 12:00am, Sundarganj police station officer-in-charge Abdus Sobhan said.

At one stage, Sharifa hit Maksuda with a stick, leaving her injured.

She was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared her dead, he said.

On information, police went to the spot and arrested Sharifa in this connection.
