Activists of the ruling party's student wing BCL and also the police severely beat up Prothom Alo correspondent Misbah Uddin for filming vote rigging in Sylhet city corporation on Monday.

Around 2:45pm, the daily’s Shahjalal University correspondent Misbah was recording the ballot stuffing by the BCL men in Jalalia Primary School polling station in Dargah area. The BCL cadres also snatched his mobile phone.

A group of policemen led by sub-inspector Nur Muhammad also joined the attack and beat him severely, injuring his back and right hand.

The BCL activists gave back Misbah’s mobile phone only after deleting all the video contents relating to rigging.

Misbah was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College where he is undergoing treatment.

Officer-in-charge of Kotwali model police station Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the incident and said proper actions would be taken against the persons involved.
