Finance minister AMA Muhith on Monday said the government is planning to bring those who earn Tk 16,000 or more a month under the tax net from the next fiscal year.

He came up with the disclosure while talking to reporters after visiting Shahi Eidgah in the city.

The minister also said they will finalise their decision to impose tax on all citizens within two years, reports news agency UNB.

“We’re thinking about imposing tax on all citizens, and it’ll be finalised by the next two years. Those who earn Tk 16,000 or more a month must pay tax, and it may be implemented from the next fiscal year,” he said.

Responding to a question, Muhith said the government has an idea about the income of private sector officials and employees. “We’ll impose the tax on them according to our knowledge about their income.”

He also said they are going to make public the report submitted by the Farashuddin-led probe body on Bangladesh Bank’s reserve account heist between 22 September and 24 September.

Muhith also assured of taking stern against if the involvement of any central bank official or employee is found after the investigation.

City Awami League president Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, district AL general secretary Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury and city corporation chief executive officer Enamul Habib were present.
