US ambassador Marcia Bernicat on Tuesday laid emphasis on improving the business environment in Bangladesh saying it will help both foreign and domestic companies do business more efficiently with greater foreign direct investment (FDI) in Dhaka, reports UNB.

The US envoy said this while talking to newsmen at a press meet organised over the 25th annual US Trade Show at a city hotel.

American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) and the United States Embassy will cosponsor the three-day show to be held between 1 March and 3 March.

She said there are areas where progress needs to be made though some significant steps have been taken to improve the business environment.

The US diplomat laid emphasis on having transparent bidding, minimising bureaucratic tangles and addressing infrastructure challenges.

Ambassador Bernicat said improving all these conditions will not only help attract more FDI but will also help domestic companies do business more efficiently.

“Trade between Bangladesh and the United States is increasing day by day. Last year, it grew by more than 60 per cent. Besides, America is the largest investor in Bangladesh’s energy sector,” she said.
