Lucky Akhand makes audience cry

An artiste in a wheelchair has made his audience cry.

Singer Lucky Akhand, who has been fighting against lung cancer for long, sang 'Age Jodi Jantam, Tobe Mon Fire Chaitam" (Had I known before, I would want my love back) in the opening ceremony of Shilpir Pashe Foundation.

And, the audience in the room could not hold their tears from rolling.

He also sang a patriotic song, 'Sadhinota Tomake Niye' (For you, freedom).

Reminiscing about the song, Lucky Akhand said, "One day I was passing by the Shahid Minar.  I thought I should work on songs about our independence."

Shilpir Pashe Foundation is a foundation that will help the artistes in destitute.

The inaugural programme was held at a Gulshan Hotel on Saturday.

Dhaka North City Corporation mayor, also the initiator of Shilpir Pashe Foundation, Annisul Huq, said in his welcome speech, "Artistes of Bangladesh are our pride. They represent us in the world. A society can’t thrive when its artistes are in destitute. This foundation will take care of that."

Trustee of the foundation professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed said, "I talked to Annisul Huq that the artistes should live their life with dignity. They don't have to go to anyone for aid. We all should come forward to this kind of initiatives."

Several business organisations donated money in the foundation.

Lucky Akhand, Alauddin Ali and Shammi Akhter received Tk four million, two million and one million respectively.

Mustafa Monowar, Ferdousi Rahman, Nasiruddin Yousuff, Anisul Hoque (author), Ayub Bachchu, Hamin Ahmed, Shamim Ara Nipa, Munmun Ahmed, SI Tutul, Fahmida Nabi, Kaniz Almas Khan, Aditi Mohsin, Ferdous Wahid, Shampa Reza, Pijush Bandyopadhyay, and others were present at the programme.
