Bangladesh women reach Asia cup final

Bangladesh have advanced into the final of the Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup, beating hosts Malaysia by 70 runs.

The comfortable victory led Bangladesh national women’s cricket team to reach the final for the first time. And, they will face India in the final tomorrow, Sunday.

The host nation was routed by 70 runs thanks to a tight fisted bowling by Bangladeshi bowlers.

Winning the toss, Bangladesh’s Ayesha Rahman and Shamima Sultana started the innings in a cautious way and put 59 runs in the opening stand.  Shamima and Ayesha scored 43 and 31 respectively.

Fahima Khatun’s cameo of 26 in just 12 balls helped Bangladesh reach a respective total of 130 for four.

In reply, Malaysian batters never looked on their way to chase the total and strangled to 60 for 9 in stipulated 20 overs.    

Rumana Ahmed took 3 wickets spending just 8 runs.  Shamima Sultana was rewarded with the Player of the Match award.

Starting the tournament as underdogs, Bangladesh defeated tournament’s six-time title holder India and two-time runners up Pakistan to reach the historic final.
