Holder too hot to handle for Tigers

Captain Jason Holder bagged six wickets to get Bangladesh all out for 168 as West Indies on Saturday wrapped up a 166-run win in the second Test with two days to spare.

Holder had also bagged five wickets in the Tigers’ first innings, and it was no wonder he was adjudged the man-of-the-match. With 16 wickets and 36 runs in the series, he was named the player-of-the-series as well.

The win meant the hosts won the two-game series 2-0, after winning the first Test by an innings and 219 runs.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan had claimed six wickets in the hosts’ second innings to bundle them out for just 129, but the batsmen cut a sorry figure once again as the visitors suffered another big defeat.

Chasing 335, Bangladesh lost opener Tamim Iqbal in the third over when Holder trapped the left-handed batsman leg before. Liton Das opted for an attacking mode and he hit six fours to make 33 in as many balls, before debutant Keemo Paul removed him courtesy of a Shai Hope catch.

Shakib hit 10 fours in a 54-run innings and Mushfiqur Rahim added 31, but the Tigers never looked like a side aiming for a win.

Holder was in form, making sure his team wrap up the win by the end of the third day, so that nobody miss Sunday’s football World Cup final because of this Test match.

The only bright feature for the Tigers in the match was the performance of Shakib who excelled both with the ball and the bat. But that certainly was not enough.

The two sides will now play three ODIs and the same number of T20s.
