FIFA fined the Algerian Football Federation 50,000 Swiss francs (41,200 euros, $56,400) for a laser beam shone in the face of Russia's goalkeeper by Algerian fans.

The federation was also reprimanded over the use of the laser beam, flares and smoke bombs during the June 26 Group H game which ended in a 1-1 draw and saw the Algerians progress to the latter stages for the first time.

A FIFA spokeswoman said Algeria had been "held liable for the improper conduct among its own group of spectators."

The Algerian FA said in a statement that it "deplores" the behaviour of troublesome fans at the World Cup.
