Netherlands midfielder Nigel De Jong will almost certainly miss the rest of the World Cup after suffering a torn groin muscle, the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) said in a statement.

KNVB said on its Twitter feed De Jong would "probably" be sidelined for two to four weeks, ruling him out of the remainder of the tournament.

The holding midfielder limped off early in Holland's 2-1 win over Mexico on Sunday.

"Nigel de Jong has tear in groin muscle. He's probably off 2 to 4 weeks," the KNVB announced on Twitter.

The Netherlands face Costa Rica in the quarter-finals in Salvador on Saturday.
