Gonzalo Higuain’s goal in the eighth minute stood up and Argentina held on for a 1-0 quarter-final victory over Belgium in Brasilia.

After Lionel Messi’s pass bounced off Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen, Higuain spun around and blasted the ball to the far post past Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Belgium brought in Dries Mertens and Romelu Lukaku in in the 60th minute to strengthen their attack, but the Red Devils couldn’t get the tying goal past goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Moments after Courtois stopped Messi one-on-one, Belgium’s defender Axel Witsel shot over the net late in injury time.

Argentina will play either the Netherlands or Costa Rica in the semi-finals Wednesday in Sao Paulo.
