The Netherlands beat Costa Rica 4-3 on penalties in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final to set up a last four clash with Argentina.

The Costa Ricans defended heroically with keeper Keylor Nevas pulling off a series of superb saves to keep the score at 0-0 after extra time, before losing out in the dramatic shoot-out

The World Cup quarter-final between the Netherlands and Costa Rica went to penalties on Saturday after the sides were goalless after 120 minutes.

Costa Rica’s fairytale World Cup continues as goalkeeper Keylor Navas has kept the powerful Dutch shooters off the board as the sides head to extra time tied at 0-0 in their quarter-final match in Salvador.

Navas blocked Robin van Persie’s shot in the 84th minute after a free kick and the Cost Rica ‘keeper got some help from the goalpost off Wesley Sneijder’s free kick two minutes earlier.

Two minutes into injury time the Netherlands again couldn’t capitalize off a free kick, this time midfielder Yeltsin Tejeda coming to the rescue to kick away Dirk Kuyt’s shot from the right of the six-yard box.

The winner will face Argentina in the semi-finals Wednesday in Sao Paulo.
