Jessore school student injured in teacher's beating

A ninth grader of Sharsha Pilot High School in Sharsha upazila of the district suffered injuries in one of his eyes as his class teacher's stick hit him while beating another student on Monday.

The victim, identified as Mahfuzur Rahman, 14, son of Aminur Rahman of Swarupdaho village in Sharsha upazila, was admitted to National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Victim's maternal grandfather Abdur Rahim has already filed a case with Sharsha police station against the teacher concerned, said officer-in-charge Maniruzzaman.
According to the case statement, Zahirul Islam Milon, an English teacher of the high school, was beating a student of section A of class-IX with a can stick on Monday. Mahfuz was sitting beside the boy.
Unfortunately, one of his attempts hit the left eye of Mahfuz, leaving him seriously injured, said headmaster of the school Shaidul Islam.
He said the school authorities will bear the cost of the treatment of the victim.
Secondary education officer of the upazila Hafizur Rahman said corporal punishment in schools a punishable offence.
Legal action will be taken against Zahirul, he added.
