The Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) will construct four new buildings named after the four national leaders who were killed inside Dhaka Central Jail on 3 November in 1975.

Vice chancellor of BRUR Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah on Friday announced this while speaking at a discussion on the Jail Killing Day organised by Muktijouddher Chetanay Progotisheel Shikkhak Somaj at Physics Gallery on the campus.

"Four new buildings will be constructed named after four late national leaders here . . . Besides a research unit will be set up at university's Wazed Research Institute commemorating the late national leaders, close associates of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," the BRUR VC said.

Four slain Awami League and national leaders are: former vice-president Syed Nazrul Islam, former prime ministers of Bangladesh Tajuddin Ahmed and Mansur Ali and former home minister AHM Quamruzzaman.

The VC added: "It has become the demand of the time to do so. We will obviously start working on it after getting approval of the university syndicate."

Teachers' association convener Abu Kalam M Farid Ul Islam presided over the discussion.
