Young Japanese language learners impressed the audience with their unique choice of topics, rich expression and fluency in the language at the final round of the '9th National Speech Contest in Japanese Language' held on Saturday, reports UNB.

Amongst the 15 final contestants, Mehjabin Alam with her speech, 'My Dream', received the biggest applause from the six Japanese judges and won the first prize.

The speeches of Nahida Islam and Sumaiya Kabir were also well appreciated, clinching second and third position respectively, said the Japanese embassy in Dhaka.

Mehjabin and Nahida will represent Bangladesh in the South Asian Federation of Japanese Universities Alumni Association (SAFJUAA) Japanese Language Speech Contest later this year.

The speech contest is one of the flagship cultural events annually organised by the embassy of Japan and the Japanese Universities Alumni Association in Bangladesh.

The contest was sponsored by Japanese corporate bodies and organisations, including Bangladesh Honda Private Limited, Marubeni Corporation, Grameen UNIQLO as well as the Japan Commerce & Industry Association in Dhaka and Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), striving to further promote economic activities in Bangladesh.
