SUST student shot during BCL infighting

A student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) suffered bullet wound during a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus on Tuesday night, report UNB.

The victim was identified as SM Abdullah Al Rony, a student of food engineering and tea technology department.

Rony, who sustained bullet injuries to his leg, was admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

SUST proctor Zahir Uddin Ahmed said two factions of SUST unit BCL - one led by Abu Syed Akando and the other led by Tariqul Islam - both vice-presidents of the unit, had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy on the campus.

On Tuesday, a group of BCL men, led by Akando, Syed Jewel and Sajidul Islam Sabuj, swooped on Tariqul Islam while he was gossiping at Satkara Restaurant near the main entrance of the university around 10:00pm, said Zahir.

At one stage of the scuffle, Tariqul opened fire, leaving Rony, who was present at the restaurant, injured.
