‘Kalyanpur militant Aqifuzzaman was Monem Khan’s grandson’
Aqifuzzaman Khan, one of the nine ‘militants’ killed in the Kalyanpur drive early Tuesday, was a grandson of the then East Pakistan provincial governor Abdul Monem Khan.
Abdul Monem Khan was the acting governor of the then East Pakistan during 1962-69.
Aqifuzzaman Khan along with eight other militants were killed during a one-hour shootout with Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at an apartment of a six-storey building in Kalyanpur in the early hours of Tuesday.
Talking to reporters at the DMP Media Centre on Thursday, additional commissioner of DMP and head of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Monirul Islam said dead militant Aqifuzzaman was the grandson of Abdul Monem Khan.
The five militants, who were killed during the commando operation at the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan on 2 July, also received training from Aqifuzzaman, a student of North South University, the CTTC unit chief added.
