Ramna police on Saturday arrested two people in a case filed over Thursday’s triple murder in the city’s Moghbazar area.
The arrestees are Faruk and Sohel.
Acting on secret information, a team of police conducted a raid in Ramna area and arrested them early in this (Saturday) morning, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) deputy commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman.
The arrestees are FIR (First Information Report) named accused in the sensational killing case, he said.
Earlier, a case was filed against 15 people, including Kailla Babu and Rony, in connection with the murder at Sonalibagh in Moghbazar.
Kalachand, brother of one of the deceased Brishti, filed the case with Ramna police on Friday night, said Alam, sub-inspector of the police station.
Unidentified assailants gunned down three people, including a woman, and injured another in a house following rivalry with the local land grabbers and extortionists at Sonalibagh in the city’s Moghbazar area on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Ranu Akhter Brishti, 28, wife of Mohammad Abul Hossain, her younger brother Hriday’s friends -- Munna, 20, and Billal Hossain, 25. Hridoy also sustained bullet injuries and he has been fighting for life at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Police sources said there had long been an intense rivalry among three alleged local land grabbers and extortionists --Kailla Babu, Kalachand (Brishti’s elder bother) and Rony. They were learnt to be close associates of listed top terror Jisan in the past.
Police, quoting locals, said Kalachand’s brother Hridoy and Hridoy’s friends Billal and Munna were staying inside a room when Kailla Babu along with his accomplices stormed the house at about 8:15pm on Thursday.
The gunmen sprayed bullets on the house inmates, leaving Billal and Munna dead on the spot. Besides, Brishti, who received bullet wounds in the attack, succumbed to her injuries at the DMCH.
